How do I apply to volunteer?
Hide
The DFEST 2009 volunteer application will be available December 12, 2009. To complete you application, you must do the following:
1) Submit an online application and agreement form.
2) Attend one of the Volunteer Calls TBA.

What is the Volunteer Call?
Hide
The 2009
Volunteer Calls will be announced soon.
During this time, you will check in, and learn some basic Dfest volunteer guidelines. You will also have an
opportunity to have a photo taken at that time.
Event volunteers can sign up for no more than three
Conference shifts. Music Production volunteers will have an opportunity to talk
with the Music Festival staff and crew chiefs, and then will receive their crew assignments.
All local volunteers, new or returning, must attend a
Volunteer Call in order to complete the application process. If you are
unable to attend one of the calls, or if the Volunteer Calls have
already passed, you will need to contact the head Volunteer Coordinator for
more information.

I'm a returning volunteer - do I need to go to a Volunteer Call?
Hide
YES. We
need to know if you plan to volunteer for 2009, and this is the time
when we mark you as a current volunteer. If you are not able to attend
one of the Volunteer Calls, please contact our head Volunteer Coordinator.

Is there a minimum age requirement to volunteer?
Hide
Event volunteers must be at least 18 years old in order to
volunteer. Music Production volunteers, with very few exceptions, must
be at least 21.
If I volunteer, do I get to go see shows for free?
Hide
Volunteer perks will allow you free admission into most DFEST events.
However, our volunteers are expected to put in a lot of time during the
event. It doesn't leave much time to see everything you want. We depend
on all volunteers to show up on time and ready to work for all their
scheduled shifts. We don't take kindly to no-shows.
If you're the type who wants to see it all and do it all during DFEST, we strongly recommend that you just buy a badge or festival wristband.
What kind of perks can I earn?

Can I work all of my volunteer hours prior to the event?
Hide
No. Volunteer work prior to the event is minimal, and we depend mostly on volunteers during the event.
I don't care about earning a perk - can I just volunteer for a few hours?
Hide
Sorry,
but no. All volunteers must work a minimum number of hours or days. The
size and scope of this event requires appropriate training for all
involved. The crews can only run smoothly when the volunteers have been
oriented in advance, and have committed a minimum amount of time to
particular crews.
What is the difference between a Event volunteer and a Music Production volunteer?
Hide
Event volunteers work on one of the different Event crews that operate throughout the event. Event volunteers may accumulate hours between two or three crews to earn a festival perk.
Click here for more Event volunteer information.
Music Production volunteers work only during the Music Festival
(July 24-25, 2009). They work both nights of the event on one crew
in order to earn an All-Event Badge plus a special Music Production T-shirt and Production Bag.
Click here for more Music Production volunteer information.
Can I work on both an Event crew AND a Music Production crew?
Hide
Nope, sorry. You must choose one or the other.
I don't live in Tulsa. Can I still volunteer?
Hide
We
accept a limited number of out-of-town volunteers. You are not expected
to attend the Volunteer Call, but you must contact our Head Volunteer
Coordinator to begin the application process. Out-of-town volunteers
are not eligible for Music Production crews, except in special circumstances.
Out-of-town volunteers are responsible for all of their
own travel and lodging arrangements, and must be in Tulsa no later
than 6:00pm on Thursday, July 23, 2009. We can not provide any
travel or lodging accommodations.
Out-of-town volunteer applications must be complete (with
travel and lodging information) NO LATER than June 1,
2009, in order to confirm your volunteer schedule.
More information for out-of-town volunteers can be found here.
What is Bag Stuffing?
Hide
Each
DFEST registrant is issued a tote bag filled with promotional material
and swag, and it's our job to fill those bags. Think of it as a
pre-DFEST mixer for volunteers.
Bag Stuffing is asked of all DFEST volunteers. It will
take place on Saturday, July 18, from 1:00pm until approximately
4:00pm, at a ballroom TBA at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Do I have to go to Bag Stuffing?
Hide
We ask all volunteers, Event and Music Production, to participate. You must let our Head Volunteer Coordinator know if you will not be able to participate.
What good is having the badge if I'm going to be working the whole time?
Hide
If you
want to volunteer for DFEST, you should know that you will not get to
see everything you want. Your priority will be working for the event
- not attending it.
